Penelitian ini bertujuan mengungkap Pariwisata Berbasis Masyarakat dalam pengembangan Kampung Kerajinan Purun di Kelurahan Palam, Kecamatan Cempaka, Kota Banjarbaru, Kalimantan Selatan. Tujuan utama penelitian adalah melihat tipe partisipatif masyarakat, keterlibatan stakeholder pentahelix, dan mengidentifikasi kriteria Community Based Tourism (CBT) yakni kepemilikan dan kepengurusan oleh masyarakat, konstribusi terhadap kesejahteraan sosial, kontribusi untuk menjaga dan meningkatkan kualitas lingkungan, mendorong terjadinya partisipasi interaktif antara masyarakat local dengan pengunjung (wisatawan), jasa perjalanan wisaya dan pramuwisata yang berkualitas, kualitas makanan dan minuman, kualitas akomodasi, kinerja Friendly Tour Operation (FTO). Metode yang digunakan adalah metode deskriptif kualitatif. Pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui wawancara, observasi lapangan dan pemetaan kelompok pengrajin berbasis google earth. Model wawancara berupa wawancara terbuka kepada pemerintah Kelurahan Palam dan kelompok pengrajin. Pengumpulan data primer, data sekunder juga dikumpulkan, berupa data kelurahan, data kelompok pengrajin, serta dokumentasi. Analisis dan temuan kriteria CBT diuraikan secara desriptif kualitatif. Hasil penelitian ditemukan adanya peran pemerintah dan swasta yang sangat mendukung, pemberdayaan wanita dalam kelompok pengrajin, konstribusi dalam meningkatkan kualitas lingkungan dengan menggunakan sumber daya alam di sekitar, keterbukaan warga terhadap pengunjung (wisatawan), serta mulai adanya arah untuk peningkatan amenitas wisata oleh masyarakat. Kesimpulan dari temuan ini memberikan pemahaman bahwa pariwisata berbasis masyarakat dapat memberdayakan potensi masyarakat untuk meningkatkan kesejahteraan masyarakat dan kelestarian lingkungan. penelitian ini menyiratkan pentingnya mengenai perlunya sinergi pentahelix menuju destinasi pariwisata berkelanjutan yaitu peran dari masyarakat, pemerintah, swasta, media, dan akademisi. Meskipun awalnya partisipasi masyarakat adalah tipe partisipasi yang diinduksi oleh pemerintah (top-down), namun akhirnya memicu kesadaran masyarakat untuk terus berupaya mengembangkan kampung mereka.
